La Patisserie Francaise by Pierre Marie

Today I would like to show you one of the two scarves I selected from Hermes Fall Winter 2019 collection. Those of you who follow me on Instagram have already seen the first one – classically beautiful Bolduc au Carre. The second one is eye catching and absolutely delicious La Patisserie Francaise, cw 14, in black/orange/multicolour. The scarf was designed by Pierre Marie, the artist who created so many well know Hermes designs, such as Les trésors d’un Artiste, Madame Cuir, Laboratoire du Temps, etc.

It is said that Pierre Marie’s idea for La Patisserie Francaise came from the pages of a French cookery book published in 1873. Le Livre de pâtisserie was the fourth book by Jules Gouffe, the son a Parisian pastry chef famous for his pieces montees, whose shop was located on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore, a stone’s throw from the house of Hermes. Soon his talent had earned him the title of “the apostle of decorative cuisine”. For Pierre Marie, these beautiful delicacies, amassed in a kind of culinary daydream, were irresistible. Towers of almond paste, pistachio croquembouches, decorative cake stands, colored sugars, nougatine, dessert creams and choux buns form an extravagant decor that pays tribute to the illustrator’s boundless imagination (information source: http://www.hermes.com).
